High blood pressure can lead to a number of health problems, including premature death.  Adults should know what their blood pressure is especially if they have a family history of heart disease.

One of the effects of high blood pressure is damage to the arteries in the kidneys.  New research suggests that a compound called sulforaphane found in broccoli might help.

Two groups of rats were given either sulforaphane or regular chow for 4 months.  One of the groups had high blood pressure.

At the end of study, they found the difference in blood pressure in the placebo group was 20%, but in the sulforaphane group was only 11%.
