Your arteries ability to be elastic or flexible is very important to your health. When arteries become stiff and rigid, you are at increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
Researchers wanted to see what the effect of weight loss and fish oil would do for arterial elasticity. A group of obese adults either received a reduced calorie diet alone or added 4 grams of fish oil as well.
They had their arterial elasticity measured before and after the treatment period. At the end of study, both groups lost weight, reduced blood pressure, improved lipids, but only the fish oil group had increased elasticity.
