African-Americans & Blood Pressure

bpWe are big supporters of vitamin D.  The research continues to come in showing how important it is to so many functions of our bodies.

Vitamin D is naturally made when we have sufficient sun exposure.  African-Americans have been known to have lower levels than their Caucasian counterparts.  They also have higher levels of hypertension.

A new study was done to see if supplementing vitamin D would have any effect on blood pressure.  Two hundred and fifty African-Americans were given either placebo, 1,000 IU, 2,000 IU or 4,000 IU of vitamin D for six months.

The results showed that with increasing levels of vitamin D, systolic blood pressure decreased significantly.
