Probiotics May Improve Heart Health

Probiotics may improve heart health according to a new study.  Researchers were looking to see what changes in lipids would occur with a high dose probiotic (Visbiome).

Patients admitted to the hospital were given either placebo or Visbiome for 7 days.  Blood samples were taken to compare lipids and markers of inflammation.

Results show that compared to the placebo group, those receiving the probiotic had lower triglycerides and inflammation.  They also had higher levels of HDL.
